With so many stories now being linked together and made into series I have started to wonder where are the standalone novels?
I have always been one of those readers who enjoys knowing what happened after the last page was read. Series books like Rock Chick by Kristen Ashley or The Others of Edenton by Brandy Rivers have always been books I have looked forward to. I love knowing that you will get to see your favorite characters again as well as get to know new ones. I like knowing if they had kids, got married, all stayed friends. It adds a level of love and instant connection to a new story.
But lately I find that all there are anymore are series books. And whereas I love the idea, sometimes you just need to step out of your comfort zone and enjoy something new. I sometimes want to read a sweet romance that has no connection to anything else.
Also, some series books are starting to feel forced. I recently read an author I have loved for many years and I found that it almost felt like she had to force a connection. I was so put off by this that I haven't decided whether or not I will be reading anything else from her. I don't want the fake interactions. A phone call or random meeting of a character from a book in another series, just to connect the two books, is really not necessary.
So I wonder, is this something you guys dislike too? Am I reading too much into this?
Let me know....
