Ride (A Bayonet Scars Novel) Review!!!!

Publication Date 10/25/13

Death comes in Armani. Salvation comes in leather.

Principessa to the Mancuso crime family, Alexandra knows a thing or two about living outside the bounds of the law. Suffocated by the future her father has laid out for her, she makes a choice she can't take back, changing the entire trajectory of her life.

Thrust into the dark and dangerous world of the Forsaken Motorcycle Club for her own protection, Alex finds herself faced with the last thing she needs right now: the man of her dreams. He’s sex in leather, the devil incarnate, and one hell of a kisser. But he’s also off-limits. Ryan Stone can be her friend, but he’s forbidden to be her lover.

Third-generation Forsaken, Ryan knows nothing other than life on two wheels, and he wouldn't have it any other way. He enjoys the many privileges that come with the patch, and the only laws he recognizes are the ones set-forth by his club. That is, until who he wants more than anything isn't allowed on the back of his bike —or in his bed. Balancing his desire for her body, and need to keep her safe, Ryan tries to keep Alex at a distance. Finally having made a choice for herself, she’s done hearing the word “no” and will push boundaries even Ryan himself doesn't dare cross.

Love is never more tempting than when it’s forbidden.

Do I love this book?  I have no idea.  The idea of the story was fantastic and I love the characters.  But the whole book feels rushed.  I literally have 5 pages of backstory for Alex and then BAM, she is in a different world.  From Mafia Princess to Biker Babe.  It sort of left my head spinning.

Alex comes from a family where you don't talk, at all.  A woman knows her place and doesn't question it.  Ever.  Truly the five pages I had to live in her mafia princess world made me happy I don't actually have to live in it.  The rules are so strict that I felt smothered just reading about it.  Alex is unhappy with her father, who is the mafia king, because he has her whole life mapped out for her.  She will marry, whom he chooses of course, have babies and nothing more.

A bad date night turns unfortunate for Alex and she sort of slips up on the "no talk" policy.  She considers herself a rat, as does her family, and she has to flee.  Honest to god, I am so confused as to why this is such a big deal.  I mean yes, she does end up giving a location away and her father goes to jail, but it isn't like she told family secrets.  Just a location to find her brother who was hurt in the confrontation, which is never fully explained.  So seriously I think people worry too damn much in her mafia world.  Shit happens.

Anyway, a aunt comes to get her and brings her biker family with her.  And our mafia princess goes from Brooklyn to Cali in a long convoy of bikes.  This is where things feel even more off.  She is off limits.  But her aunts step son is attracted to her and likewise.  This of course leads to disaster.  Hurt feelings and no satisfaction for either of them because no matter what, she is a rat who can't be trusted.

Family secrets surface, as they always do, and hard truths are learned.  I am still at a loss of what I feel.  Obviously this book will be one in a series, but the way it ended, very abruptly, leaves me a bit miffed.

I give this 3.5 lipsticks.  I just needed it to be flushed out a bit more.
