Nine Rules To Break When Romancing A Rake Review by Guest Reviewer Michele!

A lady does not smoke cheroot. She does not ride astride. She does not fence or attend duels. She does not fire a pistol, and she never gambles at a gentlemen's club.

Lady Calpurnia Hartwell has always followed the rules, rules that have left her unmarried—and more than a little unsatisfied. And so she's vowed to break the rules and live the life of pleasure she's been missing.

But to dance every dance, to steal a midnight kiss—to do those things, Callie will need a willing partner. Someone who knows everything about rule-breaking. Someone like Gabriel St. John, the Marquess of Ralston—charming and devastatingly handsome, his wicked reputation matched only by his sinful smile.

If she's not careful, she'll break the most important rule of all—the one that says that pleasure-seekers should never fall hopelessly, desperately in love.

Recommended by my girl Jess, who it is a frequent reread for. I do about 2 Historicals a year, so my research must be thorough. ;)

My Review-
I think this may be my favorite Historical Romance Ever! It had so many great attributes:

*Callie, strong, smart heroine finding her strength with each passing day, embracing life.
*Ralston, a sexy and capable hero that is a notorious rake and doesn't realize the life can be more warm and wonderful than he'd ever experienced by keeping the company of an aging spinster. Ha-ha. Callie is the antithesis of spinster!
*Passionate interactions between the two, even when it isn't romantic.
*Ralston's brother Nick. I hope he gets a book!
*Ralston and Nick's instant love for their newfound bastard sister, Julianna. Not giving two shits what the ton has to say.
*Callie's sense of right and her kindness in trying to make that happen.
*The sex, the foreplay, so sensual, sexy and hot. MacLean turns even kissing into something that made my face heat. Very talented.
*Not a single hiccup in the book for me. Nothing that made me say, "Oh, ridiculous."
*That Callie's sister, despite being recently betrothed, does nothing but root her sister on in her breaking of the 9 Rules.
*The enjoyability of watching Ralston slowly unguard his heart and have epiphany after epiphany while spending time with Callie. He enjoys every moment, every inch of her. He knows what he has in her. But it's fun to watch him rationalize it slowly.
*i love Ralston's nickname for Callie. I also love when he goes all Dom on her. Hot!
*Anytime Ralston and Callie are on the page together. Loved it! Chem-i-stry.

One thing I would have loved:
*To see their wedding and the first time they made love as husband and wife.

Thanks Jess! ♥ I think this may be a reread for me too! :)
