Lover Eternal (Black Dagger Brotherhood #2) Review

In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war raging between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret bound of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Possessed by a deadly beast Rhage is the most dangerous of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

Within the brotherhood, Rhage is the vampire with the strongest appetites. He's the best fighter, the quickest to act on his impulses, and the most voracious lover-for inside him burns ferocious curse cast by the Scribe Virgin. Owned by this dark side, Rhage fears the time when his inner dragon is unleashed, making him a danger to everyone around him.

Mary Luce, a survivor of many hardships is unwittingly thrown into the vampire world and reliant to Rhage's protection. With a life-threatening curse of her own, Mary is not looking for love. She lost her faith in miracles years ago. But when Rhage's intense animal attraction turns into something more emotional, he knows that he must make Mary his alone. And while their enemies close in, Mary fights desperately to gain life eternal with the one she loves...

I really loved Mary and the struggle she was going through broke my heart. I cried the last quarter of this book. Mary is the warrior in this story, more so than Rhage is. That being handsome Rhage...

What a burden to have to live with a curse that makes you unable to control the beast within. I found that I really wanted Rhage to be saddled with the beast forever. Not out of cruelty but because it felt like it was a necessary part of him. Like I wouldn't like his character if the beast wasn't there anymore.

Mary being able to calm both him and his inner beast pretty much tells you what you need to know in regards to who she is as a character. Strong. Stronger than any of the BDB warriors in the story. I loved that she was able to process all that was happening around her and move forward. I have to say, I probably wouldn't have handled it nearly as well.

Bella and Z getting to know each other also struck a powerful chord in me. You get to see a very very different side to Zsadist. He is someone I find fascinating anyway, and to see that he isn't always strong and cruel was a very cool thing. Even if we only get to see it when he is alone. Bella and Z's story is what I am starting now. I cannot wait to see how this plays out.

V and Wellsie taking in John is another beautiful side story to this. I loved how there was no question of where this kid would stay. No question of who would show him how to be a Vampire. No question that he belonged.

There are a lot of damaged but beautiful things in this story.

I give this 4 lipsticks!
