Eyes Wide Open (The Blackstone Affair #3) Review

The third part in The Blackstone Affair series: A love on the brink of being destroyed. The fight of a lifetime to keep it alive.

Big surprises are on the horizon for Ethan and Brynne as they struggle to adjust to what life has thrown at them. Demons from the past are threatening to destroy the passionate bond they've forged despite their vow that nothing will ever keep them apart. A truly devastating loss coupled with the promise of a new hope opens their eyes to what is most important, but is it possible for the lovers to move on from the painful histories that continue to haunt them? A stalker is still lurking in the shadows, plotting evil amidst the distraction of the 2012 Olympic games in London. Brynne and Ethan are on the cusp of losing everything as the stakes rise. Will they yield to circumstances beyond their control or will they give every ounce of fight they have left to save each other and win the ultimate prize of a life together?

Eyes Wide Open is a passion-wrought story that shows us what pure love can achieve when tested and what the heart can accomplish despite danger and adversity.

I spent so much time looking forward to this book.  I loved the first two so much.  And although I really liked this one, I didn't love it.  I felt like I was reading a story on fast forward.

In the third installment we see Ethan & Brynne continuing on a course of fast paced love.  In fact, so fast paced that Ethan is already proposing marriage and moving in together by page 10.  It was actually kind of shocking to me at first.  But then again, everything about this book was fast paced.  Except how long it took for us to find out Brynne is pregnant.  That took forever.  No one looked at the test strip, then it was taken away, then they needed to take another one, then they made love first.  Sweet jesus, by the time they looked I was over it.

Ethan is glossed over yet again in my opinion.  Yes we hear a bit about his background and what happened but again it was all super fast and moved on from quickly.  Ethan also becomes Christian Grey in this novel.  The thing I loved about Ethan and Brynne's relationship in the first two books is, Ethan seemed to accept Brynne for who she is and although he had some jealousy issues, he wasn't crazy possessive.  When he meets Brynne he knows she takes nude photos, yet NOW he has a issue with it?  Did I miss something?

This story just flew.  And it was rather anti climatic in my opinion.  I was expecting to see one of the guys who had raped Brynne as the bad guy.  Or even the Senator as the bad guy.  But no, it was a friend from a long time ago.  A friend that Brynne never really had an issue with.  It all sorta came out of left field.  And left me more than a little confused.

We literally see Brynne go from girlfriend to mother to be to fiance in such a lightning speed that it never really feels authentic to me.  Sadly I was disappointed.

Decent read, but it wasn't very fulfilling as the ending to a rather strong story idea.

I give it 3 lipsticks....
