Dark Lover (The Black Dagger Brotherhood) Review

In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there’s a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing their enemies-the lessers-more than Wrath, the leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.
The only purebred vampire left on earth, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But, when one of his most trusted fighters is killed, leaving his half-breed daughter unaware of his existence or her fate, Wrath must usher her into the world of the undead-a world of sensuality beyond her wildest dreams.
So this being my first introduction to the BDB series, I have to say wow. I really enjoyed getting to know Wrath and Beth. This story is unique to me because all of the vampire warriors are flawed in a significant way. Not broken, but flawed. Wrath not being able to see, Rhage turning into a beast, Phury missing a foot, Z being well Z. It all felt like they were true warriors. Vampires who protect their own.

Although I really enjoyed getting to know Beth, I wish I understood how she could go from a normal woman to being something entirely different and being ok with that as quickly as she was. And how she went from wondering if Wrath was a killer to being ok and even in love with him so quickly. It all felt very very fast. Too fast.

Wrath himself was without a doubt my favorite part to read in this book. I found him interesting and challenging to understand. I like that in my heroes. And the description of him sounds wicked hot. Which of course keeps you reading. Him going blind is pretty intense stuff, but it’s shown as only a mild limitation, not a complete disability which I thought was amazing.

I had issues with the whole story line regarding Mr X and his crew, I felt it was too explored. And I didn't care. I wish that time was cut in half and used to explore more with Wrath and Beth. And I felt like we didn't get to see enough of Darius either, but that looks it will change as I read the series.  This is book 1 of 11 so far.  So get ready to be committed.

All in all, really enjoyed this book! I highly recommend it!

A solid 4.5 lipsticks novel!
